La Guiàverde (The Green Guide)

Since Al Gore took the stage as an environmental evangelist, there have been massive changes in consumer and business demand. In the last year alone, there has been a significant shift in investments from investing to impact investing.

There is a mass movement on the rise, not only promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions but demonizing everything which is not. Right now, you can be on the inside of this movement, making the world a better place. Or you can be left standing on the platform, watching the train go with no chance to catch up. In a digital world, failing to act, can kill a business entity within days.

The carbon footprint of global tourism is way more significant than previously assumed. Research conducted in a worldwide survey of 160 countries between 2009 and 2013 found:

  • Tourism industry’s carbon footprint grew by 15% worldwide.
  • From 3.9 to 4.5 gigatons and is expected to reach about 6.5Gt by 2025.

That is more than 8% of global emissions and greenhouse gases.

At some point, the market will turn against the industry if we don’t get a handle on this.

You will not be a thriving tourist or travel business in 2025 unless you are highly commercialized, carbon-neutral, and emission-free. Governments will not be allowed to buy your services. Big entities will not purchase anything that can hurt their reputation. 90% of private consumers want sustainability. The remaining customer base is minimal and unattractive.

There are 450 different certifications you can buy to prove your carbon neutrality, zero-emission, gender equality, each generating a lot of extra internal bureaucracy and schemes to fill in.

La Guiàverde is a simplification. Providing your company with guidelines to make you compliant by integrating necessary actions into your business processes and activities.
